How to Measure Body Jewelry

Body piercing jewelry is measured in two ways: the diameter or length and the gauge. Captive bead rings and circular barbells are measured by diameter from the inside of the ring. Barbells are measured by length of the shaft, which is the wearable area. When talking about the jewelry gauge, the smaller the numbers, the thicker the jewelry. After 000 gauge, the thickness of body jewelry is generally stated in fractions of inches or in millimeters.

It is very important to buy the right size bod jewelry because, for health reasons, body jewelry is generally not returnable. If you don't know what gauge you were pierced with, ask your piercer.
